Peter's Classics
Friday 2-4pm

PC was born in Wanganui in 1950 and it was here that his love of opera and classical music was born at an early stage in life. As small children he and his friends sat around an old wind up gramophone playing operatic and classical 78 records. About the age of 10 he began escorting a beloved aunt to the local Opera House for classical performances and concerts.
At secondary school he joined the school drama group and appeared in the chorus of the annual school operatic production. Later in life, in London, PC fell in love with musicals and stage shows in general going to as many musicals, operas and concerts as money would allow. A highlight of this period was attending the Royal performance of the opera Aida in Earls Court.
PC says for him the music is enriched by knowing the history of the composer, singer or band. The story line and history of an opera add to the rich enjoyment of both music and song and he loves being able to share this knowledge with others thus bringing the performance to life for them also.
Along with the ‘classical’ PC has a love for the romantic music and musicals of the 1920’s – 1940’s. The great musical films produced by such companies as MGM with their lavish production numbers, romantic music and mystical stars.
All this he weaves in to his radio show ‘Midweek with PC’
