Xavier Meade

Born in México City listening to my father 50’s super stereo: Jazz, from Duke Ellington to the Platters, Classical, Fado and Flamenco, Ravi Shankar, the Beatles; traditional Mexican Cuban and Brasilian music were part of my cultural ambience. My brother’s more radical taste took me to Jimmy Hendrix, Frank Zappa, Greatful Dead, John Coltrane, Sun Ra. I truly enjoy finding, researching and more than anything being in the radio station listeneing to global music. It is even more enjoyable knowing that someone out there in Whaingaroa, or somewhere in the planet is also listening and I suspect some will be dancing or singing along.

VIVA LA MúSICA is a programme about World Music, each programme has a theme that could vary from Corridos
(the mexican tradition of song story telling) to Palestinian protest music. We often have special guests, usually knowlegable on a particular genre. We try to provide a context for very song we play and talk about the musician(s),
their instruments and their lifes.

The show is in perfect ‘Spanglish’ para aquellos que les gusta oír el español.
